No not again, one more blog on Ganguly, cant we keep him aside, let him bat against east or west or any XI that he wants. Why cant we focus on Dhoni or Singh or any another new media darling? Why this particular fixation with Ganguly? The reason is simple, as humans we all love beating a dead horse to death. We talk about success, and talk and talk and talk about it, till failure knocks on the door, and then, talk and talk and talk about it, till we find a new success story to talk about. Ganguly mystery today...History tomorrow.
Ganguly, long long ago, as is said..On the offside...There is god and then there is S C Ganguly. What went wrong........Starters, couldn't get the bat to the ball, couldn't keep his marriage with the coach in one shape, and lastly and most importantly couldn't get the Al Pachino of Indian cricket, to get him to lead, leave alone a name in the batting order.
To make matters worse, as expected the 6 wise men appointed by the board, couldn't do anything better than savor those entrees presented by Taj, including cheese and veg sandwiches, which would have been #1 on my hit parade. and give a speech on Indian patriotism. I know they don't give a rats tail, about patriotism,
But, then what else can you expect by an board of cricket control, which does anything but that. Well, now having said that, is the only reason cricket doing well in India, or it ever did was because the BCC functions like this. If we let our great bhartiya netas to handle cricket, do you think it would be any better, or would the debauchery just go on. Again Hockey is no better man, the only difference therein lies that patron saint is not calle dalmiya but a Gill.
Coming back to Ganguly, Agreed, you do something wrong, Agreed you got your chances, Agreed, you didn't take them, Agreed, the world is not being fair to you, Agree the metrics were never fair, and will never will be. But should the doors close. Should a man, who agrees on everything above, is sorry, is fit and is dying to get in, should he get a chance to redeem himself. Or should the mere cheap board politics stop this man from redeeming himself and end his cricketing career on a note he would cherish not repent.
The discussion is as age old as time, should the Mans will to do something be reason enough for him to do it. Lance Armstrong, came back from cancer, Ted Bruiski came back from fits, and something more complicated for mere mortals like me. In both the cases the only thing that they had was the love of the game and the will to play at the highest level. Ganguly sure has both, shouldn't he come in.....My Answer...Give him a decent shot, let him play till he realizes that his time has come, he sure deserves that at least. But then again, who am I.
